They contain limited shop facilities to permit ship's force repair work. It is fitted with a storeroom and workshops. All utilities are supplied from the pier. A large number have survived, and are being maintained, to service as floating hotels for US Navy ships undergoing repair / upgrades. These Repair / Upgrades often displace the ship's crews (as for some this is their home). The repair / Upgrades often are undergone in industrial areas, with cranes, forklifts, smoke, dust, welding, & contractors all aboard a sailor's home.
